The Outhouse Collective have been invited to be one of twelve young theatre companies from around the world to take part in Contact Theatre's International Festival of Theatre - Contacting The World for 2010.
The group’s involvement in this year’s celebrations, will see them devise a brand new piece of theatre in collaboration with CucioTak, an Indonesian young theatre company.
The preparations for this event will see the Outhouse both host, and embark on an exchange visit to their twins home country, in order to assist the creation of this new work. This new show will then be performed within the UK at several events/venues including London's legendary Roundhouse, the Camden Fringe Festival as well as Contact Theatre Manchester.
The Outhouse Performance Collective are a group of 16 theatre practitioners, 9 of which are actors and 6 of whom, are a network of volunteer project managers, technicians and creative’s who support the group through it’s creative endeavours.
On the back of the successful run of their first show Your Number’s Up, which the group took to the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival; the Outhouse Collective have now been invited to be one of only twelve young theatre companies from around the world to take part in this year’s Contacting The World International Festival.
Contacting the World is a pioneering, biennial festival and collaborative project for young people across the globe. Since the first Contacting the World in 2002, it has inspired innovation, creativity, inter-cultural dialogue and genuine collaboration amongst hundreds of young people. Produced by Contact, it is a programme of exchange involving 150 young theatre makers from 12 different companies across the world, who are randomly twinned to work creatively and collaboratively over a six month period, culminating in a vibrant UK based performance festival.
The group’s involvement in this year’s Contacting the World, will see them create a brand new piece of theatre in collaboration with an Indonesian young theatre company called Cuciotak. The preparations for this event will see the Outhouse both host, and embark on an exchange visit to their twins home country to assist the creation of this new work. This piece itself will be performed within the UK at the following events/venues:
- Roundhouse (London) – Scratch Performance, 26th April @7pm
- Contact Theatre (Manchester) – Contacting the World Festival, July 19th - 26th
- Camden Fringe Festival – Camden Venue, 5th - 7th August
Marcus Davey - Chief Executive of the Roundhouse says of the Outhouse:
"Following a very successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, our first Roundhouse Theatre Company have formed the Outhouse Collective. I have got to know all the members really well over the last year or so. Each one an individual but together they make a real ensemble that shines. I have no doubt that although they are in their initial steps into walking the boards of the outside world, that in the near future they will be confidently striding the stage of theatres across the land".
