The Camden Navigator is a comic play with some songs.

The play opens at the modern day Regents Canal; with two characters Fed and Sid modern day canal workers awaiting the newly restored Camden Canal to be opened and who experience time travel where we meet our characters as discuses below

The play explores the building of the Regents Canal in London and includes detail of the Camden Canal area. The play looks at various characters associated with the building of the Canal such as Morgan a canal entrepreneur associated as the chief designer and builder, Homer a principal surveyor who turns out to be corrupt and associated characters such as Congreve and inventor designer who made mistakes in the design features. Squires a scheming rascal person who goes off top do dirty deals in the city of London

We also meet Meadows a comic servant to Homer and Hargreaves a cruel canal supervisor and 2/3 women who are claims paupers of the time in poor housing and also canal boatmen similarly deposed up against Hargreaves.

The play characters are actual people associated at the time with the building of the Regents Canal and includes true events but of course there is some license with them in order to bring out the farcical nature of the play
